Student living in East London is messy but fun. The kitchen had a dodgy kettle, but we built it piece by piece.

IKEA lasts a term at best, so we searched markets. One mate found a sofa in Hackney. Nothing matched the walls, but that’s what gave it soul.

Markets spill chairs onto the streets, conversational tone and shops in the area thrive on it. My flatmate dragged me into Smithers, and the sofas looked like they belonged in films. money was tight, but it’s the pride of the living room.

We’ve all dragged furniture through rain. It’s part of student life. Furniture with scars feels built for students.

Brand-new looks boring, statement armchairs but retro lasts. every stain means another night.

Looking back after twelve months, the broken toaster doesn’t matter, but that funky accent chair is legend.

When you think furniture, skip the flat-pack rubbish. Choose a funky accent chair, sofa vintage retro and watch it age with you.
